Glenn began turning pens in 2005 after learning the basics at a Lee Valley Tools pen making seminar. He has expanded his skills to working with a variety of materials and now teaches the Pen Turning seminars at Lee Valley Tools. Glenn has participated in turning seminars by renowned turners Jim Osenton, Mike Darlow and Mike Mahoney, and is beginning to branch out into other aspects of turning including bowls, bottle stoppers, and peppermills.
Each item is handcrafted from solid blanks of various exotic hard woods, acrylics, plastics, and other natural materials. Blanks are cut to size, drilled, and then turned and finished on a lathe. Every wooden pen is finished with four coats of friction polish for durability. Acrylic and plastic pens are finished with micro abrasives for a high gloss sheen. Other items may be finished with Danish oil or polyurethane gel finish.
Glenn also sells his pens at several art galleries in Manitoba and Alberta, as well as participating in the biannual Calyx Distinctive Art show.
